Playing the comparison game? 🦸♀️ Any guesses on how to smash your competition? When I'm feeling down, I immediately ask myself this list of Q's below. Then I express gratitude for everything on my list and let myself release the heaviness of doubt/fear that I am good enough.
In the past, I would copy or try to compete--I'd scour the #vocalcoach and #artistdevelopment hashtags on IG. I'd spend hours crafting the perfect Instagram post based on the research I had done.
After making every mistake in the book, I learned that,
UGH! That is so not me!
I finally figured out that you'll always LOSE at the comparison game, soo STOP playing it!
To make competition irrelevant and to build a singing career, you must..
Create something NEW and soo uniquely YOU that it makes competition irrelevant!
Don't copy or compete--to become a thriving singer and build a loyal fanbase, you must share a message that emotionally and authentically resonates with you first. Because, as we often say here at IHMV, no one will ever sound like you and no one will ever be better at being YOU, than you...and that is your gift!
Today, I embrace competition + what makes me feel doubt/fear because it's through that darkness that I am reminded of who I am.
Today I am most thankful for my hubby Lucas (pictured here), my team and this lovely community of singers. Together we are navigating this new music industry and the fullest expression of who we are meant to be.
